Sydney witnesses second violent incident in Wakeley Church stabbing

Just days after a horrific mass shooting and stabbing at Bondi Junction Westfield, another shocking incident unfolded in Sydney as multiple people were stabbed at a church in Wakeley on Monday night, as reported by The Sydney Morning Herald.

During a church service, a disturbing video captured the moment when Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel, leading at the altar, was attacked by a man in a black jumper, resulting in multiple stabbings. The bishop and several worshippers sustained injuries before the assailant was restrained with the help of parishioners.

The livestreamed footage revealed the chaotic aftermath as parishioners tended to the injured bishop, applying bandages to his wounds. Bishop Emmanuel, known for his association with an ultra-conservative sect of the Assyrian Orthodox faith and his involvement in the Christian Lives Matter movement, has drawn attention for his outspoken views and anti-LGBTQ stance.

Police swiftly arrested one suspect linked to the attack, who is currently under investigation. Fortunately, the victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries and are receiving medical care from NSW Ambulance paramedics.

NSW Police have launched an operation in response to the incident, with officers from Fairfield City Police Area Command present at the scene on Welcome Street. This violent event follows closely after the tragic events at Bondi Junction Westfield, where six people lost their lives and several others, including a nine-month-old baby, were injured in a mass stabbing over the weekend.
