No Re-Exam for Class 12 Students Who Boycotted Exams Protesting Against the Hijab Ban

Hundreds of Pre-University (PU) students in Karnataka who had boycotted the practical examinations, protesting against the Hijab ban in educational institutions, will not be allowed to re-appear for the examinations. Ruling out the possibility of re-exams, the Karnataka Minister for Primary and Secondary Education BC Nagesh on Monday said that there is no such system for absentees. In Karnataka, class 12 is called PU.

“How can we even consider this possibility? If we allow the students who boycotted the practicals for not being allowed to wear hijab to the exam even after the high court gave its interim order, then other students will come citing some other reason and seek a second chance. It is impossible,” said BC Nagesh.

In PU examinations, the practicals carry 30 marks and the theory paper carry 70 marks, making the total marks 100. The students who boycotted the practicals will be marked zero in the practicals, and will have to score well in the theory paper to pass the exams, and to avoid losing an entire academic year.
