India's 75th Republic Day Parade – A women-centric celebration & cultural extravaganza

As India gears up to celebrate its 75th Republic Day, the parade at Kartavya Path in the national capital is set to highlight the significant roles played by women in various sectors. The theme for this year's Republic Day is 'Viksit Bharat' and 'Bharat: Loktantra ki Matruka', symbolising the country's aspirations and its nurturing role in democracy.

The Defence Secretary, Giridhar Aramane, emphasised that women will be at the forefront of the parade, forming the majority of marching contingents and tableaux. He reiterated that the selection of themes aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision that 'India is truly a mother of democracy.'

The parade, scheduled to commence at 10:30 a.m. and last around 90 minutes, will feature several significant firsts. Notably, 100 women artists will herald the parade by playing Indian musical instruments. An all-women Tri-Service contingent will march down Kartavya Path, along with the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) contingent consisting of women personnel.

"The best representation of women will be seen in this year's Republic Day parade," affirmed the Defence Secretary.

For the third consecutive year, the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Culture will present the cultural extravaganza 'Vande Bharatam,' focusing on the theme 'Cultural expression of women power - accomplishment through resolve.' Over 1,500 female dancers will deliver a vibrant performance, conveying the message of unity in diversity.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin the ceremony by paying tributes to fallen heroes at the National War Memorial, followed by his presence at the saluting dais at Kartavya Path to witness the parade. The chief guest for this year's Republic Day Parade is French President Emmanuel Macron, along with a 95-member marching contingent and a 33-member band contingent from France.

Around 13,000 special guests have been invited to witness the parade, offering a diverse representation of the country. A total of 25 tableaux, representing 16 states/UTs and nine ministries/departments, will showcase India's rich cultural diversity, unity, and progress. The tableaux have been meticulously selected by an expert committee.

A unique textile installation named 'Anant Sutra - The Endless Thread' by the Ministry of Culture will be featured at Kartavya Path during the parade. It pays tribute to the saree, displaying nearly 1,900 sarees and drapes from across the country, mounted with QR codes providing details about the weaving and embroidery arts.

The Republic Day celebrations will also include the participation of beneficiaries of government schemes and achievers in Self-Help Groups (SHGs), seated opposite Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The 75th Republic Day Parade aims to be a powerful tribute to India's journey, its diversity, and the pivotal role played by women across various sectors. The celebrations will continue with the Beating Retreat ceremony on January 29, 2024, at Vijay Chowk, marking the culmination of this grand milestone in the nation's history.
