Unparliamentary language sparks controversy in LS: BSP MP seeks action against BJP MP

BSP MP Danish Ali has sought action against BJP member Ramesh Bidhuri for using unparliamentary language during a debate in the Lok Sabha. The incident occurred during discussions about the Chandrayaan 3 mission, where Bidhuri made derogatory remarks against Ali. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has taken the matter seriously, expunged the remarks, and issued a warning against such behaviour in the future.

Ali's complaint highlights the use of offensive terms such as 'Bhadwa' (pimp), 'Katwa' (circumcised one), 'Mullah' (Muslim), and 'atankvadi' (terrorist) directed at him during the debate. He expressed his deep anguish over these derogatory comments in a letter to the Speaker.

In his letter, Ali called for the Speaker to take cognizance of Bidhuri's conduct and requested appropriate action against him. He also suggested referring the matter to the Privileges Committee of the Lok Sabha for prompt action.

The Congress party has joined Ali in demanding the suspension of Ramesh Bidhuri for his offensive remarks. Opposition parties have criticised Bidhuri's behavior, with Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra calling for action from the BJP leadership.

Opposition leaders have expressed their disappointment and concern over such comments within Parliament. National Conference leader Omar Abdullah stated that the incident reflects the BJP's view of Muslims, while RJD MP Manoj Jha raised questions about the legitimacy given to derogatory language against minority communities and Dalits.

The Aam Aadmi Party characterised this incident as the "blackest day" in the history of Parliament. Congress communication head Jairam Ramesh called Bidhuri's comments an insult to every MP, and even criticised Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's apology as inadequate.

However, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi chose not to comment on the matter during a press conference, emphasising that he did not want to discuss what transpired inside the Lok Sabha.

The incident highlights the need for maintaining decorum and respectful discourse within India's legislative bodies, even in the midst of robust debates and discussions.
