President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, late on Monday, has acknowledged that he is ready to make a commitment that Ukraine will not seek to join NATO in exchange for a cease-fire, the withdrawal of Russian troops, and a guarantee of Ukraine’s security.
“It is a compromise for everyone; for the West, which does not know what to do with us with regard to NATO, for Ukraine, which wants security guarantees, and for Russia, which does not want further NATO expansion,” Zelenskyy said
This comes at a time when Kyiv, the capital city of Ukraine, faced heavy shelling from the Russian side. At Least 5 people have been reportedly killed in the artillery barrage on Kyiv, prompting its city hall to impose a 35-hour curfew from Tuesday night amid further signs that the focus of the Russian campaign has shifted to the destruction of residential areas and civilian infrastructure.
Zelensky also expressed his desire to resume peace talks with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin. Zelensky said that until he meets with Putin, it is impossible to know if he even wants to stop the war.
yes this will happen as Zelensky said that NATO is afraid of Russia.
I think if that happens, then the whole episode, which killed many and left millions homeless, was for nothing.
And this would be a new template set by Russia - external agression to make other nations meet your demands.
With that being said, I think Ukraine has no option left but to commit not to join NATO, especially when NATO is doing almost nothing for the security of Ukraine.
